SPOOM conference day 2 - the highlight was a tour of the picturesque New Hope Mill led by the current owners, the Weed family. They ran the mill for their milling and pancake mix business until 2000, when they moved to their larger facility in Auburn. Here’s a little tour. We’re hanging out with 100 other mill aficionados in the Finger Lakes region this weekend. Here’s the highlights from Day 1 of there SPOOM conference, including tours of 4 mills from small to large, buckwheat and gluten free to organic. Such a fascinating world! We have been collecting some great art and other artifacts for the mill spaces lately, here’s a glimpse at some of the pieces, From Canadiana to quirky, they have been collected from a great auction last weekend, @florences_tchotchke, Village Thrift, and a lucky garage sale. Watching the seasons change is one of the highlights of Bruce County. #paisley #willowcreek #sunrise https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cwdt6kxuAYV/ We had an exceptional event today with a mental health panel moderated by musician Michelle Titan from Somerset Recovery, including a little concert. Panelists included D’elle Calhoun from Inside Out Art Design, Alicia Mariano, Moiken Penner, and therapist Miranda Rylance. We heard powerful stories from each one of these women and came to the end full of hope. Thanks to Tammie for pulling everyone together! We look forward to the next event on this very important topic! The Loft at the Paisley Mill is a 3 bedroom suite for you to recharge in nature. The mill is situated on 30 acres of river and trails. It’s a beautiful space all four seasons steps from the Teeswater River, village of Paisley, Saugeen River, Lake Huron, MacGregor Provincial Park, Port Elgin, and Southampton. It is only $225/night + cleaning. #weekendgetaway #paisley #oldmill #natureretreats Lazy Teeswater river and fern forest bathing = the perfect way to recharge in mid August ☀️ 🌳 ::old mill artifacts:: One of our favourite things about the old mill is the messages that the Starks and other staff left on the various equipment. This is the bolters that are still on the 4th floor. Used to blend the flour, these beautiful machines had furniture grade finish that would be used as a sort of diary to tell about events, activities, the weather. For example, “Went to Southampton Sunday last - 1903”. #ontariohistory #oldmill #writtendiary #bolter #paisley
